The "lost" stories of Ghost in the Shell can be found in Ghost in the Shell 1.5: Human-Error Processor. These tales were crafted by Shirow Masamune after completing the original manga and before creating the acclaimed Ghost in the Shell 2: Man-Machine Interface. Until now, these stories were not previously published together. Human-Error Processor focuses on the everyday battles of Section 9 agents as they combat technocrime. This entry to the franchise has the same mind-bending cyber madness one would expect from Ghost in the Shell, but in a police-procedural setting, complete with action and suspense.

Atsushi Ikeda, known for his compassionate nature, takes care of abandoned animals and provides them with shelter in his own home. As Riya struggles to understand his psychological issues that stem from societal pressures and expectations placed upon his talent, he begins to realize the importance of Atsushi's presence in his life.
